Brenda Leigh Johnson of Huntington is the new Kiwanis International’s New York State Governor

• Retired from Dale Carnegie & Associates, Inc., and still consults for the company as historian
• Started her service to the community as a Brownie in the Girl Scouts
• Founding member of the Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation
• Prior Board member of the Walt Whitman Birthplace in Huntington
• Prior Board member of Friends of Old Westbury Gardens
• Awarded Woman of Distinction by the Town of Huntington
• Currently working with General Needs, Ltd., a 501 (c)3 serving veterans of Long Island
• Current member of the Northport/East Northport Auxiliary for St. Charles Hospital
• Current member of the Ashroken Garden Club

Leigh’s focus will be on disaster relief, concentrating on programs like Stop the Bleed, CPR training, as well as preparedness for natural disasters and beyond. New York District Kiwanis will be making disaster kits with non-food items to bring to areas that are in need of relief after such disasters as flooding or hurricanes. Food items will be collected to increase local food banks.
