During November and December, Temple Beth Sholom in Roslyn Heights participated in a campaign to collect costumes for children for the upcoming Jewish holiday of Purim, which begins on Thursday evening, Feb. 25.
A coordinated effort between Temple Beth Sholom, the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center, and the Schechter School of Long Island, spearheaded by Karim Naim and Elaine Benlevi, led to the collection of 113 costumes. The costumes were carefully sorted and bagged in Purim tote bags and packed in boxes for distribution.
The costumes, collected for disadvantaged children, will be distributed through the Rockland Jewish Family Service located in West Nyack. The RJFS, which runs such programs as a Kosher Food Pantry and Holocaust Survivor Support, has had a recent surge in young families with children seeking support.
During these challenging times, we are grateful for the support of these organizations in our community who continue to come together in an effort to help our neighbors in need.
