New Hyde Park North Lions plant a tree in Memorial Park on Earth Day 2022

Lions have a powerful voice, with more than 1.4 million members worldwide. Lions are using that voice to raise awareness about climate change. In 2011, the then International President, Wing-Kun Tam challenged Lions to plant 1 million trees.

With this challenge in mind, the 2011- 2012 New Hyde North Lions Club President, Lion Dolores Carolan, along with members of the club, began a yearly commitment of planting a tree Memorial Park in New Hyde Park.

In keeping with their long-term commitment to serving the community of New Hyde Park, as well as improving the agricultural landscape, the current President of the club, Lion Joanne Alexander, and club members, planted another tree in the park on Earth Day Friday, April 22, 2022.

Lions around the world have responded to the challenge set by the 2011 International President of planting 1 million trees by planting 15 million in worldwide and have continued to plant millions more since.

Our thanks go out to Mayor Christopher Devane, Deputy Mayor Madhvi Nijjar, and the village board trustees who helped make the tree planting possible.
