Budget Workshop at Main

The second Budget Workshop for the 2018/19 Great Neck Library Budget is scheduled for Monday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Large Multipurpose Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue. All are welcome. Confirm with the Library at 466-8055 that there has been no change in meeting date, time or location.

Finance Committee Meeting at Main

The Great Neck Library Board of Trustees Finance Committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, March 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the Small Multipurpose Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue. All are welcome. Confirm with the Library at 466-8055 that there has been no change in meeting date, time or location.

Vacancy on Great Neck Library Board of Trustees

Applications are being accepted from interested Association members to fill one seat expiring in January 2019 on the Board of Trustees.

Individuals should send a letter and résumé by Wednesday, March 14 to: The Chair of the Nominating Committee, c/o The Director’s Office, Great Neck Library, 159 Bayview Avenue,
Great Neck, NY 11023.

Applicants must be a resident of the Great Neck School District and at least 18 years of age or older, and either have a valid Great Neck Library card or be a registered voter

Manhasset Art Association Opening Reception

On the Easel and Through the Lens exhibit, painting and photography by the Manhasset Art Association, will be on view from March 1 to April 17 in the Main Library Lower Level Gallery. Meet the artists at the opening reception on Saturday, March 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Gallery of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue. The exhibit will be judged by Thomas Germano, artist and professor of painting, drawing and art history at SUNY Farmingdale.

All are invited to a theatrical experience written, produced and performed by Paul D. Failla, on Sunday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

A bit of Broadway comes to Great Neck. The Class of Life takes the audience on a journey that highlights one man’s life. The story begins on the last day of his distinguished career as a police officer. This day gives way to reminiscing about his motivation to become a police officer, his proud Italian heritage, his upbringing, and married life. Utilizing a blend of humor, drama, and life experience, the actor takes his audience on an emotional roller coaster through stories relating to all. This poignant presentation will surely touch the lives of those who value family, tradition, and comedy. Director and Technical Advisor is Michael Moriarty.

Author Harriet Cabelly will visit the Library and talk about her new book, Living Well Despite Adversity on Monday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

This book is a collection of inspirational interviews for finding renewed meaning and joy in your life. People, some well-known, share their honest accounts of heartbreak, and the secrets they discovered that led them to triumph ‘despite it all.’ Cabelly reflects on the importance of developing resilience and a positive attitude, even in the face of insufferable odds. Books will be available for purchase and signing at the event.

Harriet Cabelly is a social worker, positive psychology coach, speaker and workshop facilitator who is also a guest coaching expert on WOR radio’s Change Your Attitude, Change Your Life show. Her website is www.rebuildlifenow.com.

An Afternoon at the Barnes Art Lecture/Slide Presentation at Main
with Louise Cella Caruso

Join Louise Cella Caruso for a PowerPoint presentation that will examine select works of impressionist, post-impressionist and early modern works on display at the Barnes Museum, on Tuesday, March 13 at 1:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Dr. Albert Barnes assembled one of the world’s most important holdings of fine art. The Barnes Museum holds 3000 masterpieces: 181 Renoirs, 69 Cezannes, 59 Matisses, 46 Picassos, 16 Modiglianis, 7 Van Goghs, and a myriad of decorative art objects.

Louise Cella Caruso has developed twenty-three art lectures. She has a certification in art and antique appraising from C.W. Post, LIU’s Appraisal Institute. She continued course study at museums in the US and Europe.

Great Decisions facilitated by Librarian Christy Orquera at Main

Join the discussion during the next Great Decisions program about China’s Geopolitics, facilitated by Librarian Christy Orquera on Tuesday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Large Multipurpose Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue. The program model involves reading the Great Decisions Briefing Book, watching the DVD and meeting in a Discussion Group to talk about the most critical global issues facing America today. Wednesday Matinee Film at Main

The next Wednesday Matinee at Main, about an artist who falls for a young married woman while he’s commissioned to paint her portrait during the Tulip mania of seventeenth century Amsterdam, will be shown on Wednesday, March 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Allies in Wellness facilitated by Librarian Mimi Rabizadeh at Main

Join this new study group led by Librarian Mimi Rabizadeh, focusing on a 360-degree perspective on wellness. Discussions will focus on four elements of wellness: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. The next meeting is Thursday, March 15 at 12:00 p.m. in the Large Multipurpose Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.
