The Great Neck Alert Fire Company recently honored one of their junior firefighters, Alexandra Kessler, for her hard work, dedication and extraordinary service to the Alert Junior Firefighters program.
Alexandra served as Co-Captain of the Alert Junior Firefighters from 2021-2022. She joined the Juniors in October 2017 and quickly rose through the ranks holding three officer titles during her tenure with the Juniors.
Alexandra first served as Financial Secretary (2018-2019), Second Lieutenant (2019-2020) and then as First Lieutenant (2020-2021). In 2019, for the first time in the 40-year history of the Junior Firefighters program, the group was led by an all-female slate of officers, with Alexandra as the financial secretary. T
hat same year, the Great Neck Alert Junior Firefighters were named Youth Group of the Year by the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY). Alexandra graduated from Great Neck South High in June 2022 and is a freshman at the New York Institute of Technology.
The Juniors current Captain, Richard Deem, and Alert Fire Company Chief John Purcell presented Alexandra’s award.
The Junior Firefighters program is for young adults between the ages of 12 and 17. The Juniors meet twice a month and receive training in First Aid, CPR, fire safety and participate in other firefighting drills and activities.
