Twenty Great Neck Public School students were selected for the 2017–18 Long Island String Festival Association (LISFA) Orchestras, Intermediate Division (grades 5, 6, and 7–8).

This musical experience, to be held in March 2018, brings together Long Island’s highly talented, young string musicians.

LISFA Intermediate Festival, Grades 6–8 participants from North Middle School are: Violinists Julia Huang, Jason Mei, and David Zeng, and Violist Alex Sun.

Participants from South Middle School are: Violinists Laura An, Deirdre Chan, Tiffany Chen, Bethany Cho, Drew Kim, Elizabeth Levine, Josephine Soong, Jansen Wong, Joy Yang, and Richard Zhuang; and Violists Sebastian Lennox and Dana Siong Sin.

Grade 5 participants are Violinists Kattie Huang and Alston Leung, and Violist Lauren Siong Sin, from Baker School; and Violinist Samuel Fisk, from Lakeville School.

Grace Luo, a freshman at South High School, originally selected as a Long Island String Festival Association (LISFA) Alternate has also been placed into the LISFA orchestra, Secondary Division, grades 9–10. She will play violin II.

Grace will be joining previously announced South High grades 9–10 participants, all violinists: Jaehyn Kim, Oliver Lee, Eujin Ra, Mia Wang, and Ann Zhang.

South High LISFA participants are taught by Michael Schwartz, performing arts department head/director of instrumental music.

Students are selected for the LISFA Orchestra based on their level and score at the NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) Festival held last year. They must also participate in their school orchestra. These students help to inspire all students in the district’s instrumental music program.

LISFA participants are taught by Matthew Trinkwald, at North Middle; Alan Schwartz, at South Middle; Anne Fogarty, at Baker; and Juan Garcia, at Lakeville.
