Herricks High School senior Jasmine Feng has been selected to receive Students Building Bridges Award from the Jewish Community Relations Council of Long Island for her efforts in creating a more civil society.

As the president of the school’s Asian American club, Feng organized a Herricks Stop Asian Hate Rally. Her efforts included coordinating the school’s cultural clubs, contacting speakers, and having close to 200 students attend the event.

Herricks history teacher Matthew Jehn said, “It’s not every day that someone actively applies the lessons of history to make the world a better place. What is most impressive in this case is that the entire event was due to the efforts of Jasmine Feng.”

Jehn shared that during classroom discussions, Feng was always engaged in the day’s lesson, whether it be a Socratic seminar, guided simulation, or group work. The history teacher went on to say, “Jasmine is a role model to her classmates and greatly deserves this recognition.”

Feng will be honored for her efforts in building bridges across communities and creating a more civil society at Long Island’s Holocaust Remembrance Day virtual program on May 5.
