Grant-Guys Inc. today announced the award of $283,000 in emergency COVID-19 aid to numerous local volunteer fire and EMS based first response agencies, including the Albertson FC and Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps. is drawing to a close after one year of successful equipment purchases to Nassau fire departments and ambulance corps.

The award was administered by the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps. who acted as award host, and distributed PPE to the Port Washington FD, Levittown FD, Oyster Bay FC #1, Albertson FC, Floral Park Ctr. FC, Great Neck Alert FC, Bellerose Terrace FC and Lawrence-Cedarhurst EMS.

The award purchased new EMS personal protective equipment such as masks, gloves, and suits for responders; and also reimbursed first responders for expenses they already incurred during the pandemic. These expenses included cleaning supplies and disinfection of vehicles and facilities.

The Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps (MVAC) stated, “we were glad to have received the help and support of Rep. Suozzi in securing this funding. It will help us recoup expenses and plan for the future”, he said. The award carried a local 10% match based on population.

This first of its kind program was funded via the CARES Act passed by Congress in April 2020. The bill recognized the significant expense and danger the nation’s first responders were placed in during the pandemic. Items eligible for purchase included surgical gloves, masks, gowns, boot covers, head covers and coveralls. Sanitizers and cleaning supplies, together with costs for cleaning vehicles and facilities was also covered.

Reimbursement of expenses began in close cooperation with FEMA staff who assisted in the administration of the grant. This application was prepared by Long Island based Grant-Guys Inc. “Due to the extraordinary service these agencies displayed during the height of the outbreak we were proud to waive our usual fees associated with grant management”. The goal was always to get these funds distributed and prepare for any future re-occurrence of the virus” said Grant-Guys staff. We are especially proud of the award because it is a new program. In such, grant writers never fully know what to expect from the peer review committee; but obviously we struck a chord with them. The one-time program was a Supplement to the annual AFGP FEMA fire grant program. Grant-Guys had a 100% success rate with this program meaning every submitted application was approved or approved in a follow up application.
