Our front entrance reconstruction is well underway, the partial roof replacement is almost complete, and we’re sprucing up in anticipation of the library’s 100th anniversary this year. Celebrations and events are planned throughout the year.
This month, teens can enjoy a Teen-Tween P[ART]y Art event, while the younger set can have Fun with P[ART]y Art and make 3D Cupcake Valentines (grades PreK-2), too.
Laura Trentacoste holds her two-day Civics for Kids at the library this month. The program includes one session at the Library, and the second session at Floral Park Village Hall, with stops at the police and fire departments.
Perennials Baby Start, StoryCraft (pre-K – 2), Play Hooray Kids, Funkytown Playground (ages 2.5 – pre-K), Baby Start, and Tots Night Out Family Pre-school Hour (day and evening sessions) with A Time for Kids are back this month. In addition, there’s Mommy and me with Chefs of d’Future.
Always favorite Chefs of d’Future offers a special Mommy and Me Winter Tea Party (ages 2.5 – pre-school), there’s a Lunch at the Library drop-off (PreK – grade 1), Young Engineers Paint Night Fun (K–2), Ice Cream Cone Valentine’s, Suncatcher Garland making, and a Tween Time program.
In honor of Black History Month, Artist/maker Danielle Barbaro returns with a Paint Like the Greats event that features African-American artist Alma Woodsey Thomas, a prominent abstract painter of the 1960s.
For adult fun, Game Nite for Grownups is back, and February’s movie matinee features Top Gun: Maverick.

At month’s end, there’s a live performance from Irish Step Dancers from the Donny Golden School of Dance that will have everyone kicking up their heels!
Wednesday morning weekly hybrid Chair Yoga with Micheline is ongoing. We’ve added an evening Restorative Yoga session this month with Micheline as well. The English Language Learners program meets Saturday mornings (pre-registration required).
By appointment only AARP Tax Assistance begins Tuesday, Feb. 7 through April 11. Nassau County Receiver of Taxes Jeanine Driscoll conducts a property tax seminar. On the subject of taxes, there’s a Tax Diversity Your Retirement Income program.
This month’s Floral Park Library Urban Explorers excursion takes them to the New York Historical Society Museum.
Longtime volunteer group Made with Love Knitting and Crocheting meets Mondays at 6:30 pm and Wednesdays at 11:30 am. Come for the yarn…stay for the yarns! The Monday Morning Friends Book Club and the Evening Edition Book Club hold regularly meetings scheduled this month.
The Library Board meets at 7:30 pm Wednesday, Feb. 8; the meeting is open to all.
Call the Library (516 326-6330) to check days and times for the Book Nook, as hours may vary. All sales of books, DVDs, etc. go to support the Friends of the Floral Park Library, a 501c3 organization.
The Library is closed Monday, Feb. 2 for Presidents’ Day.
