AARP Tax Aide – Location: All-Purpose Room, 2nd Floor AARP-trained volunteers will prepare tax returns for low-to-moderate income seniors on: Mondays, February 7 – April 4. Make an appointment with the library for same day drop off/pick up income tax preparation assistance. AARP staff will prepare your income taxes and contact you to return to the library to pick up your documents. Call the library at 516 355-7850, x301 or 302 for an appointment. Fall Prevention Workshop – Virtual Monday, February 7 at 1 p.m. 2-Part Fall Prevention Workshop. “Leaves Are Supposed to Fall…People Aren’t” *Please register ONLY ONCE to be included in both sessions. Part 1: Covers Falls, Risks, Gait and Balance, and Home Safety. Part 2: (Monday, February 14, 2022). Covers Vision, Hearing Loss, Feet & Footwear, Community Safety, Osteoporosis, Weather, Infections, and How to get up safely from a fall.

Nothing Dark about the Dark Ages – Virtual Tuesday, February 8 at 7 p.m. Join art historian Gabriella Corey for a night of debunking high-school textbook myths and exploring how the misnomer ‘Dark Ages’ was incorrectly applied to the 12th-15th centuries. It was a time of technological, philosophical, and artistic innovation that paved the way for geniuses of the Renaissance.

NYS Unclaimed Funds – Virtual Wednesday, February 9 at 12 noon. A representative from the New York State Comptroller’s Office will be providing a workshop on unclaimed funds. Participants will gain knowledge on the history and facts of unclaimed funds. The presenter will give a walk-through of claim instruction and search tips. 2022 Medicare Updates and Options – Virtual Thursday, February 10 at 1 p.m. The Nassau County Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP) is offering an informative session on Medicare Updates and Options for 2022, including Social Security and Medicare, cost of living and premium increases. This program is designed for existing and new Medicare members.
