November events at the Floral Park Library

November events at the Floral Park Library

Thank you to our generous patrons who made the Floral Park Library’s October Great Give Back such a success. The children of Belmont Child Care Association’s Anna House will be well-outfitted with costumes for their Halloween celebration!

Beginning November 1st, we continue our annual Food for Fines tradition. Patrons with or without fines are encouraged to donate high-demand items like cereals, peanut butter and jelly, pasta sauce to benefit Floral Park’s Our Lady of Victory food pantry.

To herald in the holiday season, the Boy Scouts of Troop 482 will be selling wreaths and poinsettias on the Library lawn Saturday, November 24 (rain date the 25th), but not before a day after Thanksgiving family event with Chefs of d’Future.

This month, the  “littles” can enjoy Toddler Time; A Time for Kids Baby Start and Family Pre-School Hour; Funkytown Playground; Play Hooray; and Storycraft. There’s also Little Adventurers; Pom Queen craft; and Creatology Kidz Remote Control Car Challenge and LEGO Minecraft.

Teen choices include Fall Doodle Art, Teresa Maritato’s Fall Fun, and Thanksgiving Hot Pockets with Chefs of d’Future.

November options for the Adults feature creative programs: Fall Jewelry Making with The Cat’s Meow’s Cathy Buckley, and Make A Succulent Terrarium with Guil Forlino of Stewart Manor’s Birch Plant Shop. We support our local merchants!

We’ve rescheduled two of our programs: Everything I Learned was Through Volunteering, and Tony Dora’s Author Talk. Learn about a nutrition prescription for optimal health with Marie Ruggles, or listen to Maria D’Andrea discuss the always interesting concept of signs from beyond.

The Evening Edition Book Club meets on the 2nd, and the daytime Book Club meets on the 6th.  The featured movie this month is “Book Club: the Next Chapter.” Seems appropriate enough!

Weekly Wednesday Chair Yoga with Micheline continues as a hybrid program. It’s nice to see so many new faces as well as the “regulars.” Empire Safety Council’s Defensive Driving class is on the 10th.

The always popular Made with Love Knitting and Crocheting group meets Mondays at 6:30 pm and Wednesdays at 11:00 am.

The Library Board meets Wednesday, November 8 at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome.

The Library is closed Saturday, November 11th in observance of Veterans’ Day, and Thursday, November 23rd for Thanksgiving Day.

One-to-one tech help for tablets, smartphones, laptops and Kindles is available for our Floral Park patrons by appointment only.

Call the Library (516 326-6330) to check days and times for the Book Nook. All sales of books, DVDs, etc. support the Friends of the Floral Park Library, a 501c3 organization.
