The Hillside Library is partnering with Long Island Coalition for the Homeless in doing a School Supply Drive.  Needed items include backpacks; folders; spiral and marble notebooks; pens; lunchboxes; markers; glue sticks; binders; scissors; highlighters; calculators.  As always, we thank you for your generosity.

PROGRAMS and EVENTS

 Virtual Paint Night                                                                                                                            Friday, June 9 at 7 p.m. World Parrot Day (May 31) celebrates these amazing birds with zygodactyl toes.  Did you know that Puck the Parrot holds the world record for the largest vocabulary of over 1700 words?!  Sketch and paint your own Puck with Alma tonight!, For beginners to advanced sketchers and painters. Everyone is welcome. Enjoy a fun and relaxing evening painting in the comfort of your own home! For a list of supplies needed, please go to the library’s website.

Board Game Day – All Purpose Room                                                                                      Saturday, June 10 at 11 a.m.  Come to Game Day at the library.  We’ve got Clue, Sorry, Yahtzee, Battleship, Uno, and cards.  Play against your friends, family, or strangers.  You bring the people, we’ve got the games.

Bingo – All Purpose Room                                                                                                            Sunday, June 11 at 12:30 p.m. Join us for a fun game of Bingo!  Winners will win prizes!

Let’s Shell-abrate Summer! – All Purpose Room                                                                Wednesday, June 14, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Paint a decorative ceramic shell lantern with acrylics with a pearl finish. Patrons aged 18+ only. PLEASE NOTE: Your registration will NOT be confirmed until materials fee payment ($5.00, cash) is received by Monday, June 5, 2023.

Normal Forgetting! – Virtual                                                                        Thursday, June 15 at 6:00 p.m. Northwell Health Neuropsychologist Dr. Crystal Quinn discusses what is involved in a neuropsychological evaluation, cognitive change associated with normal aging, the difference between normal aging and dementia, and common ways to promote brain health.  Bring your questions!

St. Francis Hospital Mobile Health Outreach Bus                                                            Friday, June 16, 10 a.m. – 1:45 p.m. FREE In-Person Health Screenings! The screenings include a brief cardiac history, blood pressure, simple blood test for Cholesterol, and Diabetes screenings with appropriate patient education and referrals as needed for clients above the age of 18.

  • No appointments necessary – First come, First served.

 Stemtastic: Building Bridges! – All Purpose Room                                              Monday, June 12 at 4:30 p.m.  Ages: 4 – 6 years (with parent/caregiver). Work together in teams to build the strongest bridge possible out of newspapers or other materials. Compete with other teams to dtermine which bridge can maintain the most weight.

Move N’ Groove with Ms. Jane! – All Purpose Room                                            Tuesday, June 13 at 4:30 p.m. Ages: 7 – 8 years.  Get ready for some fun action and groovin’! Be up and moving in this class while having fun and teaming up in activities. Remember to bring a bottle of water!

Play Hooray – Children’s Room                                                                                        Friday, June 16 at 11 a.m. Ages: 9 months – 5 years (with parent/caregiver). Stories, music and movement activities with Mollie Mouse!
