Northwell Health helped high school students and community members raise more than $750,000 for the American Cancer Society through a dozen “Relay for Life” events in June.
Northwell was a corporate sponsor of “Relay for Life” events in Northport, Huntington, Plainview/Old Bethpage, Commack, Tarrytown, Smithtown, Centerport, Bellmore, North Brookhaven, Islip Terrace, Hempstead and Port Washington. More than 20 Northwell staffers volunteered their time in the fourth year that Northwell Health sponsored “Relay for Life” events across Long Island. The funds from the events go toward cancer research.
Huntington Hospital’s Chief of Neurosurgery, Dr. Robert Kerr, spoke to the crowd at the Huntington and Northport events while Joyce Davis, a clinical nurse navigator for breast and gynecologic cancer at Huntington Hospital, addressed cancer survivors at a dinner in their honor.
“Relay for Life events have always been very inspiring and we are so honored to be able to help our local high school students and community members raise money for the American Cancer Society’s research,” said Valerie Burger, associate vice president of cancer services in Northwell Health’s Eastern region. “Relay for Life is the world’s largest fundraising event and Northwell Health is proud to support the efforts of the American Cancer Society.”
