Old Westbury Gardens opens to the public

Starting Wednesday, July 1, Old Westbury Gardens opened its gates to the public—allowing visitors to enjoy and explore over 200 acres of outdoor space for the first time since closing for the regular season in December 2019.

After a delayed opening due to COVID-19, with a regular-season starting in April, visitors are now able to return to the Gardens to stroll the outdoors, including the Walled Garden, Rose Garden, Lake Walk, Thatched Cottage, and West Pond.

Before reopening, the Gardens launched an online registration system for visitors to reserve timed-admission spots. Tickets will not be sold in-person; instead, limited tickets can be purchased online. The new system limits visitor capacity, helping to maintain social distancing.

“We recognize how important it is to have an outdoor space, such as Old Westbury Gardens, where guests have ample space to properly socially distance,” Nancy Costopulos, president and CEO of Old Westbury Gardens, said. “Over the last several months, our staff has been working behind the scenes to ensure we would be ready to welcome guests back with rigorous safety protocols in place. We are eager to have visitors strolling the grounds and hope our guests find solace in a safe and open environment.”

In addition to the new ticket reservation system, visitors will be asked to abide by New York State COVID-19 protocols. Visitors must maintain six feet of distance between household groups and wear face coverings. Masks may be taken off when people are within their group but must be worn when coming in close contact with other visitors.

“As we reopen, safety will continue to be our number one priority to protect our visitors, volunteers, and staff,” Costopulos added. “We appreciate our visitors for being so understanding as we implement changes to protect everyone’s well-being.”

Westbury House will remain closed until further notice. For regular updates, additional information, or to reserve tickets, visit the website: www.oldwestburygardens.org.

General admission to Old Westbury Gardens is $12; senior admission is $10; children’s admission for ages 7-17 is $7; and children six and under, and Old Westbury Gardens members, are free. Visitor Hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday (closed Tuesday) and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekend.
