Known for his exquisite portraits and history paintings, Juan de Pareja was an Afro-Hispanic slave and later freed assistant to 17th-century Spanish painter Diego Velázquez. Museum educator Alice W. Schwarz will give you a sneak peek and discuss Pareja’s works and the Met’s upcoming exhibition opening on April 3rd. This program is part of an ongoing series about 17th Century painters. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
