Members of the Sewanhaka High School community gathered on Oct. 7 for the school’s annual homecoming celebration.
The day’s festivities kicked off with a parade, led by the school’s marching band and members of American Legion Elmont Post 1033, who served as the color guard.
The homecoming court, including king Cesar Coronel and queen Christina Chodkowski, waved to community members along the parade route, as did central administration members, Sewanhaka High School building leaders and board of education trustees.
Students displayed colorful banners and constructed floats based on this year’s cartoon theme. Awards were given for best float and best banner. First place in the float competition went to the senior class for their beautiful SpongeBob Squarepants creation. Seventh-graders placed first in the banner competition, and in the category of student-performers, the Rockettes’ banner placed first.
Following the parade, students returned to the school’s athletic field, where the Indians defeated Great Neck North High School, 27-0.
