SUNY Old Westbury President Timothy Sams recently announced Cheryl Wilson as the dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.
Wilson, an established scholar in 19th-century British literature and performance studies, earned a B.A. in English from SUNY Geneseo, before obtaining an M.A. and Ph.D. in English from the University of Delaware.
Wilson brings over 15 years of experience in higher education, serving in public and private institutions. She most recently served as the dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and professor of English at Stevenson University. Her administrative responsibilities included serving as vice provost for special projects.
During her tenure, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences established the university’s first doctoral program. She served as the self-study editor and co-lead for Stevenson University’s 2018 MSCHE site visit and re-accreditation.
Her leadership resulted in successful curricular and co-curricular developments in the areas of general education, academic assessment and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives for faculty and student engagement.
Prior to that position, she was the chair of the Klein Family School of Communications Design and an associate professor at the University of Baltimore. Wilson was also an assistant professor at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
