As the winter approaches, many Long Islanders find they are without adequate clothing to protect themselves against the cold weather.

For many years, the Social Action Committee of Temple Judea, working with other North Shore synagogues in the area as well as with the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center, has participated in an annual clothing drive to provide for people who need warm clothing and blankets for the winter. This year was no exception.

The congregation generously donated a huge amount of warm winter apparel as well as blankets. A team of excellent volunteers organized the clothing according to men’s, women’s and children’s sizes.

It took three classrooms and many hours to organize each item into categories.

Large bags, each labeled according to the contents, were then brought to a distribution point in Glen Cove. That afternoon, Temple Judea’s enthusiastic volunteers, working alongside congregants from other synagogues, distributed the clothing, blankets, fresh produce, and sandwiches to the recipients. It was easy to see the gratitude on their faces as they collected their items.

This project was done in conjunction with Tikkun Olam committee of North Shore Synagogue.
