The Hillside Library is partnering with Long Island Coalition for the Homeless (LICH)in doing a Baby Necessities Drive.  Needed items include baby clothes, feeding essentials (bottles, brushes, formula) and bath essentials (wash cloths, body wash etc.) Also, diapers.  As always, we thank you for your generosity.

PROGRAMS and EVENTS

Game Day for Adults! – Children’s Modular Room                                                        Friday May 12 and Friday, May 19, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Spend Friday mornings with friends for fun and games! Join a group, or bring some friends for a rousing game of Rummy Cube, Scrabble, Chinese Checkers, MasterMind, or Bring Your Own! Coloring books and sheets also available. No registration necessary.

Adult Storytime with Sister Shamus – All Purpose Room                                            Friday, May 12, 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Sister Shamus returns to the Library to engage and delight us with a lifetime of antics and fun, from growing up in a large Irish family throughout her years of service with the Dominican sisters.  Her 2014 book, The Spirit ‘Neath the Habit, will be available for sale.

Paint Night: Sketching and Acrylics with Alma Virtual                                                Friday, May 12 at 7 p.m. Love, anytime of the year! Alma demonstrates another variation of abstract painting, with more defined lines and bold color. For beginners to advanced sketchers and painters. Everyone is welcome. For a list of supplies needed, please go to the library’s website.

In-Person: Library Plant and Garden Group – 1st Floor Modular Room              Tuesday, May 16, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Calling all gardeners, of all levels and interests!  Join the Plant and Garden Club and exchange seeds, rooted cuttings, and plants with fellow gardeners of all skills and interests.  Let’s discuss composting, annuals and perennials, indoor and outdoor gardens, container gardens, terrariums (make your own!), and your problems and successes!   Sessions meet April 18, May 16, June 20, July 18, August 15, September 19 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. No registration necessary.

Innovative Gaming – Topic: The Big Bad Wolf.  All Purpose Room                              Monday, May 15 at 4 p.m. Grades: 1 – 3.  Players team up to build three different versions of a home using various materials, including clay, straw, and wood, and experiment to see whose creation can withstand the Big Bad Wolf!

Innovative Gaming – Topic: Crazy Cannons.  All Purpose Room                      Monday, May 15 at 6 p.m. Grades: 4 & Up. Players will discover an explosive way to travel in Minecraft as they compete to build a cannon that will launch them the furthest and highest!

Kahoot Trivia – The Great Outdoors – Virtual                                                          Monday, May 15 at 7 p.m. All Ages Youth & Families (Kids/Tweens/Teens & Families).  It’s Spring Time! Join us for a trivia night on all things outdoors, from outdoor activities, animals, plants, & more!  A prize will be awarded to the night’s trivia contest winner.

Play Hooray! – Children’s Room                                                                                    Friday, May 19 at 11 a.m. Ages: 9 months – 5 years (with parent/caregiver). Stories, music and movement activities with Mollie Mouse!
