Yom HaShoah program on the Jewish Enlightenment at Temple Isaiah of Great Neck
Linda Burghardt, Scholar-in-Residence at the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County, will present a Yom HaShoah program on May 1 in Great Neck.

Temple Isaiah of Great Neck will present a Yom HaShoah program by Linda Burghardt entitled, “On the Road to the Holocaust: Moses Mendelssohn and the Jewish Enlightenment” on Wednesday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m.

Burghardt is the Scholar-in-Residence at the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County and a journalist and author from Great Neck.

She will talk about the Jewish Enlightenment movement that swept across Europe in the late 18th century, greatly advancing the lives of Europe’s Jews by catapulting them out of the ghetto and into the modern world. But along with this huge success came a powerful backlash that paved the road to the Holocaust with a virulent revival of “the hate that would not die.”

Learn why this happened, how it developed and who was behind the grand design that brought it into being.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Temple Isaiah is located at 1 Chelsea Pl., Great Neck. More information is available at 516-487-5373 or at templeisaiahgn.org.
