‘Harry Warren & Henry Mancini in Hollywood’ with Harvey Granat

On Sunday, May 15 at 3:00 p.m., Stephen C. Widom Cultural Arts at Emanuel will present a virtual program, Harry Warren & Henry Mancini in Hollywood.

Emanuel’s longtime friend and favorite singer/raconteur, Harvey Granat, will take us on a journey, in words and music, with rare film clips, that explores the life and times of these two iconic American composers for film, who garnered seven Academy Awards between them.

Granat presents one of the most popular series at the 92nd St Y, where he has hosted many of the greats of the entertainment world for the past nine years.

Harry Warren wrote more film songs than any other composer and won three Academy Awards along the way. His songs have been featured in more than 300 films and include: “Lullaby of Broadway,” “You’ll Never know,” “That’s Amore,” “Atchison, Topeka & The Santa Fe” and “At Last.”

Henry Mancini won four Academy Awards, a Golden Globe and 20 Grammy Awards for his unforgettable film and TV work. His award-winning songs include: “Moon River,” “Charade,” “Days of Wine and Roses,” among many others.

Both composers were raised by Italian immigrant parents and rose from poverty to become two of America’s most successful songwriters.

Harvey Granat, accompanied by Rob Kelly, will perform a number of these songs and offer fascinating background stories. He will also share rare video highlights of some of the greats of the entertainment world performing more of their memorable songs.

Registration for this virtual event is $10.

This program is funded by Robert & Amy Dorfman in honor of their children and grandchildren.
