A burglar broke into a North Hills home Wednesday night and stole a safe from the property, according to Nassau County Police.

The homeowner was in New York City for dinner during the 8:10 p.m. burglary. His two children and their nanny were at the home on Links Drive South at the time of the burglary.

The nanny called the homeowner to say that the back door of the home was smashed, the noise from which neither the nanny nor the kids heard. When the homeowner returned, he noticed his safe was gone.

The investigation is ongoing.

Nassau County Police ask that anyone with information about the incident contact Nassau County Crime Stopper at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911, of which all calls will remain anonymous.
