Robert Zimmerman tops candidates in first-quarter funding with over $900,000 raised

Among the qualified candidates running in the 3rd Congressional District, Robert Zimmerman raised the most money in the first quarter of 2022, according to the Federal Election Commission.

Since his campaign announcement this year, Zimmerman, a longtime Democratic National Committee member from Great Neck, has raised $916,913.88 and disbursed $165,969.55, leaving him with $750,944.33 cash on hand, according to FEC reports. 

Financial disclosures for the period, which were submitted by April 15, track contributions, money spent and cash on hand from Jan. 1 to March 31. 

Economist George Santos, the lone Republican candidate vying for his party’s primary as of now, raised $778,094.72 in the first quarter, bringing his campaign total to $1,631,042.18 since the announcement of his candidacy, according to FEC reports. He has since disbursed $985,583.12, leaving him with $821,293.77 cash on hand at the end of 2022’s first quarter. 

County Legislator Joshua Lafazan (D-Woodbury) was third in receipts for the first quarter and second among Democrats, raising $550,235. Throughout his campaign, which began in December, Lafazan has raised $1,002,783 and disbursed $283,914, leaving him with $718,869 cash on hand. 

State Sen. Alessandra Biaggi of Westchester County, who announced her candidacy this year, raised $437,230.42 in the first quarter, good enough for fourth among all qualified candidates. She has also disbursed $111,570.02, leaving her with $325,660.40 cash on hand. 

Former North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman, who currently is Suffolk County deputy executive, raised $387,544 since announcing his campaign this year. Kaiman disbursed $56,342.49, leaving him with $339,583.71 cash on hand. 

Melanie D’Arrigo of Port Washington raised $71,417.66 in the first quarter, disbursing $90,334.05. By March 31, she had $97,259.59 cash on hand and had raised $297,296.85 during her campaign. 

Oyster Bay’s Reema Rasool raised $62,556 in the first quarter. Rasool, who began fundraising this year, disbursed $22,333.12, leaving her with $40,222.88 cash on hand. 

Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-Glen Cove), who has represented the district since 2016, is giving up the seat to run for governor.

After a redistricting vote in the state Legislature, the 3rd Congressional District includes the North Shore of Nassau County and parts of Suffolk, Queens, the Bronx and Westchester.

    These sums indicate a lot of outside money coming in, which should come as no surprise.

    Also, he doesn’t sound like an “economist.”
