A pair of men have been indicted in connection with the fatal shooting on Oct. 2 of an East Northport man who founded a Great Neck-based financial services company.

Paul Kutz, 53, was visiting his son at Marist College in Poughkeepsie when he was shot in the chest and torso at a nearby hotel around 7:30 a.m., according to officials.

He was pronounced dead at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital later that morning, Poughkeepsie police said.

Roy Johnson, 35, and Devin Taylor, 26, were both staying at the hotel, police said, and were indicted earlier this week. The duo, officials said, were both homeless.

Johnson was charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and is currently held without bail for this indictment, officials said.

Taylor was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and has his bail set at $500,000 cash, a $1 million bond or $5 million partially secured, officials said.

Officials also said the individuals had no connection with Kutz, who founded Kutz & Company CPAs in Great Neck with his brother, Andrew. Kutz was believed to not be the targeted victim of the shooting, police said.

Kutz was the father of three sons along with three brothers. A statement on the company’s website described him as a “wonderful man who cared most about his family and his dogs.”

“The Kutz family has received a tremendous outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and the community,” according to the statement. “Paul was a kind, gentle, compassionate man who was taken from all of us too soon. The offers to help the Kutz family have been heartfelt and a source of love and comfort during an unimaginable time.”

Efforts to reach family members for comment were unavailing.

A GoFundMe set up in Kutz’s memory has raised more than $81,000 as of Wednesday. Phil Talamo, who described himself as a “good friend” to Kutz started the fundraiser and said the money raised will help finance the college educations of his three children.
