A Great Neck Plaza man who allegedly held a knife to the back of someone’s head at a local dry cleaner was arrested over the weekend, according to officials from the Nassau County Police Department.

James Orfanos, 33, entered Alpian Cleaners at 4 Welwyn Road Saturday morning and allegedly began to cause a disturbance. Orfanos went to an area of the dry cleaners that was reserved exclusively for employees, officials said.

He then began to punch and kick a 27-year-old man, whose identity was not disclosed, before holding a knife to the back of his head and putting him in a rear choke hold, according to officials. Orfanos allegedly threw the man’s phone and left the scene in an unknown vehicle.

Following a police investigation, Orfanos, who lives on the same road as the cleaners, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree menacing, second-degree burglary and second-degree criminal obstruction of breathing, officials said.

Orfanos was scheduled to be arraigned at the First District Court in Hempstead Sunday, but efforts to reach officials for further comment were unavailing.

The 27-year-old man was reportedly taken to a local hospital for treatment for the multiple contusions and injuries to his neck and left elbow sustained during the attack, according to police.
