After more than 70 years in business, Great Neck’s Poultry Mart will be closing at the end of July, according to a post from the owners earlier this month.
The Middle Neck Road store known for its comfort food ranging from chicken to duck and everything in between, will open for the last time on July 30 before closing its doors permanently. Allen Honig, president of the family-operated store, expressed his gratitude for the community support they have received since 1950 in a letter.
“It saddens me to announce that Poultry Mart must close its doors forever at the end of July 2022,” according to the letter. “My men and I want to say ‘thank you’ to all our “FRIENDS” that have shopped and supported us for 72 years. I refer to you as “FRIENDS” because all of you are much more than just customers. You were members of the Poultry Marty FAMILY.”
But the post did not disclose the reasons for the closing.
The online letter saw nearly 200 comments from peninsula residents wishing the Poultry Mart family well on their next endeavors, sharing memories of their favorite dishes or their first time entering the store.
