Community leaders and elected officials were on hand to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ridgewood Savings Bank’s Garden City Park branch Thursday morning.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena both congratulated the branch on sustained success.

“Ridgewood Savings Bank has been a staple of the Garden City Park community for the past 50 years, serving tens of thousands of Nassau County residents,” Blakeman said.  “I want to congratulate them on their success and look forward to seeing all they will achieve in the future.”

Blakeman’s office and DeSena also presented the branch with an honorary proclamation.

“Congratulations to Ridgewood Savings Bank on the momentous occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Garden City Park Branch,” DeSena said. “Ridgewood Savings Bank has been a trusted community partner for half a century now and on behalf of the numerous residents of the Town who have utilized your services to help build their lives and futures, I want to say thank you for all your hard work and dedication delivering for your customers.”

The branch, one of 35 in the state, opened its doors on Sept. 23, 1972.

Present Thursday was North Hempstead Councilman Dennis Walsh, the New Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce, Cellini Lodge No. 2206 and the New Hyde Park North Lions Club, among others.

Leonard Stekol, Ridgewood’s chairman, president and CEO, said it was heartwarming to see the impact the bank has made in the community.

“We thank our customers and friends in Garden City Park and Nassau County who have placed their trust in us for their banking needs for a half-century,” Stekol said. “We are warmed by the many stories shared today of how Ridgewood has improved so many lives, making it possible for customers to safely save for homes, businesses, college educations, and retirements. As New York’s largest mutual savings bank, the core essence of our business has always been to deliver on the hopes and dreams for all our customers.”

For three consecutive years, Forbes has given Ridgewood a “Best-in-State” designation, and Bankrate has named it a “Top Regional Bank”.
