HEARTS, a supporter of the arts in Port Washington schools and the community, will host its annual benefit on Thursday at the Port Washington Yacht Club.

For its sixth annual Red Party, HEARTS, which stands for Helping Enrich the Arts of Port Washington, will honor local figures: Jim Avena, mayor of Manorhaven, the Peter and Jeri Dejana Family Foundation and Michelle Posner Goldman, the immediate past president of HEARTS.

Avena is being recognized for his work as the grant administrator with Peter and Jeri Dejana Family Foundation.

Nissa Fine, a Port Washington pre-school teacher, will receive the HEARTS 2019 Founders Award for her dedication to HEARTS from its founding as its main school coordinator.

The Red Party is held each year around Valentine’s Day as an ode to the name of the organization, and is one of the group’s main events to raise money to continue providing grants for schools and hosting programs for students and the community.

The funds raised will support initiatives for the 2019-20 school year.

Performances at the event will feature musicians from Bach 2 Rock as well as students showcasing the dances they learned in the dancing classrooms program.

There will also be an auction where guests can bid on local gift certificates and merchandise.

“HEARTS is once again proud to host the Red Party, our annual event that raises money to provide grants for creative projects in the coming year, all to support our mission of enriching the arts in Port Washington’s public schools and across our community,” Damon Gersh, the group’s founder, said in a statement.

“We’re thrilled to be honoring our wonderful past President, Michele Posner Goldman, as well as Nissa Fine, Jim Avena and the Peter & Jeri Dejana Family Foundation, who so generously support HEARTS’ mission and work throughout Port Washington.”

Attendees are encouraged to wear red to the event and the dress code is informal.

Tickets can be purchased online at heartspw.org for $90 per person.
