The Village of Manorhaven voted to double the radius required for giving public notice to the surrounding homeowners of a property with a new site application or proposed modifications. 

Residents who live within 200 feet of a property will now be notified of a public hearing for the application. Originally the village only required notification for those who lived within 100 feet.

Trustees also approved increased fees for site plan review applications.

A $200 fee will now be required for a single-family home, $500 for a two-family home and $150 per unit for multiple-family structures.

For commercial, industrial and governmental applications, the applicant is required to pay a fee of $1,200 for each 10,000-square-foot area of the lot.

Increased fines for garbage violations will now be imposed in the village, as well.

Residents are not to bring their garbage to the curb before 5 p.m. the day prior to garbage collection and it cannot remain on the street later than midnight on collection day, according to the village code. All garbage materials should only be held in a watertight metal or plastic container with a lid.

Those who violate the garbage regulations will be fined $75 for the first offense, $100 for the second and $150 for the third offense within the period of a year. Any subsequent offenses within the one-year period will be charged a fine of no less than $500.

The village will also begin using a new garbage contractor, Dejana Industries, June 1. It had previously used Meadow Carting.

Dejana Industries was formerly owned by Peter Dejana, but the company is under new ownership after Dejana sold the company in January 2018.

The bid from Dejana Industries will save the village $279,000 over the next five years, according to the village’s spring newsletter.

At the end of the 24-minute meeting, Manorhaven Mayor Jim Avena reminded residents about the village’s Memorial Day service that will take place in front of Village Hall to honor soldiers who died in battle.
