Sands Point announces new upgrades to Village Club

With summer kicking off on Memorial Day weekend, the Sands Point Board of Trustees announced several changes to the Village Club during its meeting on Tuesday.

On Saturday, the club will open the rebuilt pool area, Trustee Peter Forman announced. Other than the pool itself, everything around it was completely rebuilt. The locker rooms were completely reconstructed, the kitchen and dining area were expanded and new poolside furniture was ordered, although the new chairs will not arrive until the week after Memorial Day.

Drinks and food will be served at the opening.

“I think it would be safe to say that this brand new, upgraded pool facility is an incredible facility for residents,” Forman said.

Mayor Ed Adler said residents would be invited to check out the new facilities at a later date when the furniture arrived and everything was truly ready.

The board also announced an upgrade to the Village Club’s golf carts. Each cart now has a GPS that will allow members to call the beverage cart to their location and more accurate mapping of the greens.

Aside from the Village Club, the trustees voted to approve a contract with the Port Washington Fire Department for fire and EMS protection.

The board also engaged D&B Engineers and Architects PC to provide engineering services for the renovation of the Water Department building, for replacing a generator at Village Hall and for a drainage structure location plan. The Woodbury-based firm was one of several firms indicted last week in New York City on corruption charges involving bribery, business fraud and political campaign contributions.

Adler said during last month’s meeting that the firm’s legal issues stemmed from an employee who worked in the city and had never spoken with Sands Point officials.
