WowMoms, a new community wellness center opening across the country, is coming to Mineola.
WowMoms World, a Canadian-based company, is a chain of wellness centers where mothers can focus on self-care just as much as the needs of their children.
The 5,500-square-foot facility will be located at 328 Jericho Turnpike and include an open play area, child-friendly case featuring all natural, healthy foods and space for instructional and fitness classes for parents and children. It will hold its grand opening on Thursday, Jan. 3.
WowMoms blends fitness with care, taking a multifaceted approach to parenting and family life. A new take on the services a day care provides, WowMoms allows parents to often be in the same room as their children while also caring for themselves.
“I think there’s a big void between modern day parenting and what I was raised with,” franchise owner Natalie Economou said.
The Mineola location will be the first in the United States to officially open, with others in California, Florida and Texas slated to open later this winter and spring.
Several branches are already operating in Canada. Economou’s application was granted by the village Board of Trustees in June, filling the empty storefront that was once 99 Cents Paradise.
Often parents, particularly those that have recently had their first child, forget or put their needs second to those of their children, which can be detrimental to their own health, Economou said. WowMoms merges parents’ self-care needs with the care needs of their children.
Parents have access to group fitness classes like yoga and pilates and their children can be in the same room, or they have the option to supplement their fitness routine with more individualized personal training.
A class developed by WowMoms kinesiologists promotes motor development in children ages 5 months to 4 years, as well as access to baths for infant floatation therapy, a baby spa and a basketball court, among others.
Economou, a former ultrasound technician, said she felt empowered by the concept and the sense of family community that WowMoms brings. Despite the business’ name, fathers are invited to take part in classes and care for themselves.
Economou hopes that new mothers who come in are able to find their own “mom tribe” and is already receiving memberships. WowMoms is membership based but will offer day passes as well, she said. Those interested can tour the facility and sample a complimentary demo class seven days a week after the grand opening.
