Readers Write: 5G wireless networks pose possible health risks

5G wireless networks operate at much higher frequencies than the 2G, 3G, or 4G networks currently in place and have never been been used in everyday consumer products.

More than 200 scientists and physicians from 38 nations have signed a petition calling for a moratorium on the usage of 5G in the European Union (April, 2018).

The declaration is entitled, “5G networks in European Countries: appeal for a standstill in the respect of the precautionary principle.”

Prior to this, on Sept. 13, 2017, more than 180 scientists and physicians from 35 countries signed a petition recommending a moratorium on the roll-out of 5G systems until potential hazards for human health and the environment have been fully investigated by scientists who are independent from industry.

On the local front, the Village of Lake Success, despite the objections of some residents, has already committed to installing a 5G network!

Because of the tremendous capacity of these 5G networks, businesses will be able to link more and more electronic devices to one another wirelessly.

Soon we’ll be able to access many of our appliances at home via our cell phones or computers.  What is the downside?  What are the risks?

  • A large number of peer-reviewed scientific reports demonstrate harm to human health from electromagnetic fields, including a recent study by the National Toxicology Program. These results support human epidemiological studies on radiofrequency radiation and brain tumor risk.
  • Given that RF-EMF has been proven to be harmful for humans and the environment, scientists are fearful that exposure to 5G systems will substantially increase the health hazard over and above what we are already experiencing.
  • The population will be completely awash in the waves that connect these devices, and by the electromagnetic fields generated by them.

Now that we understand the serious challenges facing our Long Island communities, please understand that there are solutions.

Patti Wood, director of Grassroots Environmental Education in Port Washington, is an excellent resource when it comes to protecting and advocating for community health issues.

Please telephone the Grassroots office at (516) 883-0887 with all questions or concerns on 5G, LEDs, wireless technology or other environmental issues. All it takes is one phone call.  Your health, your family’s health and your community’s health may depend on it.

  1. There is a debate going on among some of us as to whether or not 5G was installed on Long Island or not. I thought it was. .. but others are saying, no…that it was more antenae with 4G technology. Which is it. We really need to know.
