The 33rd iteration of Pride in Port will take place Saturday, Sept. 24, and run from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

A range of events are scheduled throughout the day as part of Pride in Port celebrating the best of Port Washington. These include a community parade, homecoming football game and the “Taste of Port Washington” Dinner Dance.

The Annual Hall of Fame ceremony and breakfast kick off the day’s events. It will take place at 9 a.m. in the auditorium of Schreiber High School, where alumni who have excelled in athletics are recognized.

Caitlin Fitzpatrick (2006), Jacqueline Hehir (2004), Timothy Langton (1992), James McKenna (1975), Stephen Shackel (service award for 35 years coaching multiple sports and levels) and Norman Taylor (1956) are this year’s inductees.

At 11:30 a.m., the parade gets underway. The seven public schools in Port Washington and many community organizations take part.

The parade’s route begins at Main Street, close to Belleview Avenue, and concludes on Campus Drive. The grand marshals for this year are family-run companies that have been active in Port Washington for three or more generations.

On the Seeber Field track, there will be a Family Fun Day with activities. These include rides, arts and crafts, face painting and more.

The homecoming football game kicks off at 2 p.m. During halftime, the Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place.

At 10:30 a.m., a bus service operated by the Town of North Hempstead will depart from the parking lot of the Port Washington Adult Activities Center at 80 Manorhaven Boulevard. (One can keep their car there during the day.) It will make stops at Landmark on Main Street en route to the parade.

At 12:30 p.m., the senior luncheon will begin in the Schreiber cafeteria.

Seniors will have designated sitting in front of the LIRR station. After the parade, the bus will transport attendees to Schreiber for the senior luncheon before returning to the Center at 2 p.m.

The “Taste of Port Washington” Dinner Dance begins in the Polish-American Hall at 7 p.m. The Port Washington Parent Council Board will be this year’s Community Honoree. Some of Port’s finest eateries will provide the cocktail hour and supper for the Dinner Dance.

Sequel will provide entertainment. Tickets for the dinner dance are available in advance on eventbrite.com for $35 per person. One can buy tickets for $40 each at the door.
