Catholic Health offers free prostate cancer screenings

Catholic Health is offering local residents free prostate cancer screenings throughout September in recognition of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

Screenings are recommended for those who have not had a PSA test within the past 6 months, individuals age 40 and over who are at high risk due to African American heredity, family history and/or personal history, and asymptomatic men age 50 and older.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that 13 out of 100 men will develop prostate cancer during their lifetime. African American men are more likely to get prostate cancer and those with a family history (father, son or brother) of prostate cancer are at greater risk.
