County Legislator Joshua Lafazan (D-Woodbury) has been endorsed by fellow Nassau Legislator Arnold Drucker (D-Plainview) as he bids for the Democratic nomination in the 3rd Congressional District.

Drucker said working with Lafazan has shown that he has what it takes to advocate for Long Island in Congress.

“For the past 5 years I have had the pleasure of working side by side with Josh Lafazan on the Nassau County Legislature, and I am firmly convinced that he possesses the essential qualities to lead our community in Washington,” Drucker said in a statement. “Josh combines a keen intellect with boundless energy, passion and empathy for every person he meets that is impressive and refreshing. Josh’s time is now and I enthusiastically endorse him and am confident that he is the right choice for Congress.”

Drucker joins a dozen local mayors, including those in North Hills and Old Westbury, as well as Assemblywoman Taylor Darling (D-Hempstead), who have pledged support for Lafazan.

I am proud to have Arnie’s support in my campaign for Congress,” Lafazan said in a statement. “Local elected officials such as Arnie know first-hand what the taxpayers they represent need and he knows that I will deliver. I look forward to continuing to work with Arnie to deliver federal resources.”

Since announcing his candidacy in December, Lafazan has raised over $800,000, his campaign said. If elected, Lafazan would become the youngest member of the Democratic caucus in the House of Representatives.

The 3rd Congressional District extends from Westchester to Suffolk County, including the North Shore of Nassau County. The seat is being vacated by Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-Glen Cove) as he runs for governor.

At 23 years of age, Lafazan became Nassau County’s youngest-ever legislator upon his election to the Nassau County Legislature in November 2017. In previous elections, Lafazan ran as an independent who caucused with the Democrats. He has since re-enrolled as a Democrat for his congressional run.

Also running for the Democratic nomination in the district are Robert Zimmerman of Great Neck, Melanie D’Arrigo of Port Washington, Reema Rasool of Oyster Bay, state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi and former North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman of Great Neck.

George Santos and Kevin Surdi are seeking the Republican nomination.
