The Multiple Listing Service of Long Island, which provides residential real estate listings for Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties, is merging with the Hudson Gateway Multiple Listing Service to form New York MLS LLC.

In addition to the three counties covered under the MLS of Long Island, the New York MLS will include the boroughs of Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx, and Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan and Orange counties. The new MLS will consist of approximately 40,000 real estate professionals.

“The expansion of geographic boundaries will create greater opportunities for members by providing access to a larger audience of real estate professionals for consumers alike,” said Joseph Mottola, the CEO of the Long Island Board of Realtors (LIBOR) and MLSLI.

According to a news release from the company, discussions on a possible merger began in June 2017 between LIBOR and the Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors, who wanted to combine their own multiple listing services. The merger would make the flow of data seamless for brokers and agents throughout the New York area.

“The launch of the new MLS is an exciting move in the right direction to uniting area real estate professionals, by creating the only MLS members will need,” said Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors CEO Richard Haggerty.

Jim Speer will serve as CEO for the new MLS. He previously served as the senior vice president of operations for the MLSLI for over 30 years.

“With the alliance of two successful MLSs, members gain entry to a vast selection of integrated technology tools and resources which will better serve their buyers and sellers,” Speer said.

The New York MLS — which the news release said will be renamed at some point — is expected to be fully operational at some point during 2019.
