The Herricks Middle School Music Department is proud to recognize 13 students who participated in the New York State Band Directors Association’s Middle School Honor Band on March 1 and 2 in Liverpool, New York. Herricks was one of 35 schools with students selected across New York State to perform in this prestigious ensemble.

Eighth-graders Jordan Abraham (percussion), Megan Cheng (flute), Meaghan Haller (flute), Jaimee Huang (flute), Namit Kapoor (clarinet), Carolyn Lau (Flute), Alexander Marcoline (alto saxophone), Ranjan Rasquinha (trumpet), Olivia Reese (flute), Tanush Soni (alto saxophone) and Ethan Thway (bass clarinet), along with seventh-graders Edwin Chen (clarinet) and Meredith Daly (flute), did an outstanding job.

The students had the privilege of studying under the direction of Karen LaVoie, a creative, inspiring, and energetic music educator. They arrived on Friday afternoon for rehearsal, continued rehearsal Saturday morning and performed an impressive concert on Saturday afternoon.

“Being selected to perform with this ensemble is a true honor,” said band teachers Alicia Brown and Geoffrey Taylor. “The caliber of the students’ musicianship, maturity, and commitment to music was truly evident by their participation in this event. For young students to perform a concert with strangers they only rehearsed with for about 12 hours is a compliment to their musicianship and maturity.”
