Offensive first half lifts Carle Place over Wheatley in semi-finals 17-3

The second-seeded Carle Place Lady Frogs defeated third seed Wheatley Lady Wildcats 17-3 in the Nassau Class D girls lacrosse semi-finals on Wednesday afternoon, led by Nicole Pascarella.

Pascarella recorded a hat trick and two assists while Lauren Smith had two goals and three assists.

Carle Place goalkeeper Lauren Nagy recorded 12 saves.

Micki Wain and Jolie Katz each led Wheatley with a goal and an assist while goalkeeper Yvonne Kalpakis stopped seven shots.

Wheatley head coach Terry Grace said they couldn’t solve Carle Place’s style of play.

“They had a lot more speed and aggressiveness,” Grace said. “It was hard to make an adjustment at a pace we’re not used to. The girls played as hard as they could and it just wasn’t enough.”

In the first half, Carle Place outscored Wheatley 11-1 and outshot them 15-7.

Pascarella led Carle Place with a hat trick an an assist while Smith scored twice and recorded two assists.

Julia Winer scored twice and Trinity Reed added a goal and an assist for Carle Place.

Roughly five minutes into the game, Carle Place quickly took a 4-0 lead on goals from Winer, Smith, Pascarella and Leah Iglesias.

With 13:48 left in the first half, Trinity Reed gave Carle Place a five-goal lead.

Smith assisted on Pascarella’s second goal of the game to give Carle Place a 6-0 lead, forcing Wheatley to call a timeout with 12:27 remaining.

Four minutes and twenty seconds later, Pascarella completed the hat trick as Carle Place led by seven.

Samantha Reed gave Carle Place a commanding eight goal lead off a feed from Emiline Biggin with 6:27 remaining in the first half.

Wheatley broke the shutout at 5:15 with a goal from Katz off a feed from Wain.

With goals from Jenna Vasilakopoulos, Winer and Smith, Carle Place closed out the first half with a 11-1 lead.

In the second half, Carle Place outscored Wheatley 6-2 and had a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal.

Alexandra Nagy led Carle Place with two goals while Giana McKeough had a goal and assist.

Remi Goldfarb and Wain were the goal scorers for Wheatley in the second half.

Biggins netted a goal for Carle Place three minutes into the second half as they led 12-1.

Wheatley responded with a goal by Goldfarb off a feed from Katz with 19:45 left to play.

Carle Place put up five more goals to take a 17-2 lead.

McKeough, Vasilakopoulos, and Caroline McLaughlin each scored while Nagy rounded out Carle Place’s offense with the last two goals.

Wain added a goal for Wheatley with 2:12 remaining, but it wasn’t enough as Carle Place went on to win 17-3.
