Floral Park cops seek flasher, car thief

Floral Park police are seeking a man who exposed himself to three teenage girls on Sunday, and another who broke into several cars last weekend.

A white man in his 20s was sitting in his car at the corner of Tulip and Laurel avenues around noon Sunday when he called to the three 13-year-old girls, Police Commissioner Stephen McAllister said.

They turned, looked and saw him sitting in the gray Nissan Sentra with his pants open and genitals exposed, McAllister said.

One of the girls’ mothers then picked them up and reported the incident to Floral Park police, he said.

Police checked with the Nassau County Police Department’s 3rd and 5th precincts for reports of similar crimes, but so far have found none, McAllister said.

“This is kind of a standalone right now,” he said. “We’re just curious to see if there are other incidents the girls didn’t report to us.”

Police are also looking for a man who they say broke into 17 cars in Floral Park early last Saturday morning.

The suspect, described as a young black man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and backpack, took loose money, cigarettes and valuables from cars on Geranium, Violet, Verbena, Crocus and Emerson avenues around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 15, McAllister said.

The man did not break any windows and only entered cars with unlocked doors, McAllister said.

Police are advising residents to lock their cars at night to prevent such break-ins.

Anyone with information about the break-ins or the man who exposed himself can call the Floral Park Police Department at 516-326-6400.
