East Williston Superintendent Danielle Gately laid out the upcoming budget schedule for the district during the Feb. 13 board of education meeting.
The district will hold its first budget work session on Wednesday, March 1, and will hear a presentation on the budget overview, the administrative programs and capital improvements included, among other items.
On Wednesday, March 8, the second work session will go over the district’s fund balance, English as a New Language program department, technology and innovation department and athletic department.
The three principals in the district, James Bloombarden of North Side School, Christine Dragone of Willets Road School and Joseph Weiner of The Wheatley School will be presenting during the third workshop on March 15.
Workshops will end with a budget committee presentation on March 22 before the board votes on adopting the budget on Wednesday, March 29, Gately said.
Gately said all workshops will take place in Room 450 of The Wheatley School and the special meeting to go over final deliberations and adopt the budget will take place in The Wheatley auditorium.
In unrelated district news, President Mark Kamberg said the board was adopting “Option 1” for next year’s academic calendar after Gately recommended it to the board.
Kamberg said other considerations for the calendar, which was passed unanimously, were emergency days and that this option gives the district an additional day of school that he said comes in handy because no vacation days will need to be pulled if necessary.
Kamberg added the district has historically begun classes before Labor Day, which option 1 allows.
