The Village of Williston Park’s annual Ragamuffin parade will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, beginning at Village Hall.
The parade will kick off at 3:30 p.m. before ending at Kelleher Field where there will be a pumpkin carving contest and costume contest, among other activities.
Music after the parade will be provided by D.J. Steve Griffin.
The village is also hosting its 8th annual family fun run/walk on Saturday, Nov. 26, held in honor of Amalia “Molly” Murphy, a village resident who died in 2012.
Registration at Kelleher Field begins at 8 a.m. that morning before the race/walk begins at 9 a.m.
More information on the event can be found on the village’s website.
“It’s a great day to hang out with your neighbors and run off the extra turkey you ate on Thursday,” joked Deputy Mayor Kevin Rynne. “I think last year we had over 240 participants and every year that number gets bigger and bigger.”
In unrelated village news, Superintendent of Public Works Steven Shelley said storm catch basins are being cleaned through the month of October. For the road project, work is being done currently on Broad Street before continuing south on the west side of the street toward Hillside Avenue.
In November, the Sanitation Department is off on Nov. 8 for Election Day and Nov. 11 for Veterans Day and there will be a village-wide pickup on Monday, Nov. 7. Recycling will be picked up on Wednesday, Nov. 9, as normally scheduled before another village-wide pickup on Thursday, Nov. 10.
Volunteers are also needed for the village’s Operation Santa. More information can be found by contacting village hall.
