Floral Park Memorial High School 12th grader Shanelle Tangonan received an Honorable Mention from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Alliance for Young Artists and Writers for her artwork titled “Mano po.” The piece – created in graphite, charcoal and gouache – represents her brother demonstrating a cultural tradition in the Philippines called “Mano po,” in which you place an elder’s hand on your forehead as a sign of respect.
