Port Washington Play Troupe announces auditions!

The Port Washington Play Troupe has announced upcoming auditions for “It’s a Wonderful Life,” a radio adaptation by Bob Nissen.

This beloved American holiday classic comes to captivating life as a live 1940s radio broadcast. With the help of an ensemble that brings a few dozen characters to the stage, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve.

  • Very light rehearsal period as there is no need to memorize lines. (All actors will be performing from scripts in the style of a radio drama.)
  • Musical numbers, “vintage radio commercials,” and live foley sound effects will be used in the style of old-time radio shows.
  • Cast must be available on December 14, 15, and 17.

Audition Details:

  • Wednesday, October 18, 7:30-9:30 pm. St. Stephen’s Church, 9 Carlton Ave, Port Washington. St. Cecelia Room (entrance under the main entrance of the church on Carlton Ave.)
  • Thursday, October 19, 7:30-9:30 pm. Bach 2 Rock, 1015 Port Washington Blvd., Port Washington.

Roles:

  • Seeking actors 16 years old and older.
  • Readings will be from the script and will be based on vocal inflection. Actors may be asked to try different roles using different characterization/voice quality.

Singers:

  • Please bring 16 bars of music – preferably in the style of the 1940s or a holiday tune.
  • The musical director will accompany all auditions on piano, so please bring a score. (If auditioning for a role, you do not necessarily need to audition for musical numbers.)

Please Note: This is a welcoming environment for veteran and new actors. We look forward to meeting you! For additional information, email [email protected]
