Hundreds of educators from both Nassau and Suffolk counties, including teachers, administrators, central office leaders and school board members, participated in EdCampLI. This was the seventh annual EdCampLI event in nine years, with a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 60 work sessions were offered where attendees collaborated on numerous topics relative to education and effective school leadership.

East Williston Superintendent of Schools Dr. Danielle Gately played an instrumental role in the day’s programs. She led a session titled Women in Leadership and facilitated a discussion with a panel of women in leadership positions in education. The East Williston Board of Education as well as 25 East Williston teachers also attended EdCampLI.

The East Williston Board of Education participated in a panel discussion facilitated by Manhasset School District Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Personnel Dr. Donald Gately titled “What’s Up with That,” focusing on the motivations and challenges of serving as a board member. The session was designed to provide those who participated a glimpse inside the inner workings of a school board.

One of the most well-attended sessions of the day was jointly facilitated by Dr. Danielle Gately and Dr. Donald Gately titled “Life Work (Im)Balance,” focusing on the demands of educators and education leaders and the importance of successfully managing time, work, and family.

Throughout the EdCampLI experience, participants had the unique opportunity to collaborate with each other as they shared valuable information, resources and strategies to succeed both professionally and personally in the challenging but rewarding field of education.
