Mineola High School student Keira Talty has recently been recognized for her achievements in science.

Talty was awarded Second Place in the Poster Session of the 60th annual National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, which was held recently in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The National JSHS brought together 245 high school students who qualified by submitting and presenting original scientific research papers in regional symposiums held at universities nationwide. Talty competed in the “Mathematics and Computer Sciences” category and received a $450 monetary award.

Additionally, Talty has been named a finalist in the 2022 NSPC Brain & Spine Surgery Health Science Competition. By being chosen as a finalist, she will be able to present her research in person and compete for prize money. Her research is in the category of “Bioengineering and Computational Biology.” The finalist event is scheduled to be held at the Center for Science Teaching and Learning in Rockville Centre on May 18.
