Join us for an exciting adventure at the Port Washington Public Library with the annual Great Library Card Adventure! From April 15 to April 30th, kindergarteners through fifth graders in the Port Washington School District can come to the Children’s Room and help win books for their school libraries. The grade with the most participants will win!

Rachel Fox, director of Children’s Services, started the GLCA program 22 years ago to encourage more kids to use the library.

She was upset at the number of kids she did not recognize while walking around Port Washington.

She said, “If I didn’t recognize these kids, they didn’t use the library.” To change that, the Great Library Card Adventure was born!

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Great Library Card Adventure! Due to COVID, the GLCA was on pause for two years.

Fox and PWPL Children’s staff have been visiting elementary schools like Sousa, Manorhaven Guggenheim, Daly, and Salem.

It’s an excellent opportunity to tell our young Port Washington residents about all the fantastic services PWPL offers. While you don’t need a library card to play, it’s a perfect opportunity to get one. Plus, every child who joins the GLCA will receive a special gift (while supplies last).

This fun adventure is a collaboration between PWPL Children’s Services and the local elementary schools, with support from the Friends of the Library. Don’t miss out on all the excitement! For more information, visit PWPL.org/children. See you at the library!
