In a remote Polish village, Janina devotes the dark winter days to studying astrology, translating the poetry of William Blake, and taking care of the summer homes of wealthy Warsaw residents. Her reputation as a recluse crank is amplified by her not-so-secret preference for the company of animals over humans. Then a neighbor, Big Foot, turns up dead. Soon, other bodies are discovered in increasingly strange circumstances. As suspicions mount, Janina inserts herself into the investigation, certain that she knows whodunit. Babies need lots of “tummy time” to develop their muscle strength and coordination. You and your child will be led in songs, rhymes, and simple stories. There will be time for playing with rattles, soft blocks, and other developmentally appropriate toys. This program is for parents/caregivers with babies between the ages of 3 months to pre-crawlers. With the 50th anniversary of Picasso’s death in 2023, France and Spain will partner to organize an international exhibition dedicated to the artist’s legacy across Europe and the United States Professor Thomas Germano will present a visual lecture related to the art exhibitions and events surrounding “The Picasso 1973-2023 Celebration.” This is a hybrid event. The Adler Gallery & Lapham Meeting Room
Starting at 6 p.m., We will have a demonstration of “Writing Your Name” in Chinese Calligraphy. Then, at 7 p.m., the New York Chinese Qipao Association, Inc. will present a traditional ribbon dance and fashion show. Lastly, the Port Washington Korean Parents Association Inc. and a Port Washington-based Chinese group will share more treasures of their cultures. This program is sponsored by the FOL and by generous donations from local Chinese and Korean families.

Latin Grass: Larry & Joe in Concert

Larry & Joe were destined to make music together. Larry Bellorín hails from Monagas, Venezuela, and is a legend of Llanera music. Joe Troop is from North Carolina and is a GRAMMY-nominated bluegrass and old-time musician. As a duo they perform a fusion of Venezuelan and Appalachian folk music on harp, banjo, guitar, and other instruments. We are proud and delighted to bring these gifted musical pioneers to the Lapham stage of the Port Washington Public Library for a very special SoundSwap event. Up first: A college dropout reconnects with her mother in Finnish filmmaker Ida-Maria Olva’s short, “Summer of Bees” (“Mehilaiskesa”) (2021-23 min.).
