September events at the Floral Park Library

We’re pleased – and proud – to be named 2022 Best Public Library in Nassau County by Blank Slate Media – for the second year in a row. Our Director refers to us as the “little library that could.” Thank you to all our patrons, presenters, and staff!
And, thank you, too, to our patrons who donated school supplies as part of the Midsummer fines forgiveness initiative.

September is National Library Card Sign-up month and children, teens and adults who sign up for their first library card will be entered into raffles to win prizes, beginning September 1st through September 30th.

We have a very special program on Wednesday, September 14th, when Anthony Marinello, founder of Dropseed Native Landscapes, leads a tour of Floral Park’s Centennial Gardens. The Gardens were recently recognized as Best Public Garden in Nassau County by Blank Slate Media.

Our main meeting room refurbishing should be finished by the time this paper goes to print, and indoor programs (hopefully) are scheduled to resume.

For Teens, we’re keeping it light for this month as the busy back to school season, and the return of after school programs, occupies much of their time. The Teen Executive Board meets on Friday, September 30th to discuss future events and programs.

September sees the most popular Early Literacy and Children’s programs continue: : Baby Start’s A Time for Kids and Family Pre-School Hour, Play Hooray Kids, along with Pokemon Paint and Play and a four-week Chess for Kids program.

The weekly Wednesday Hybrid Chair Yoga program with Micheline Debono continues, and we’ve added three September sessions of Pilates on the Library lawn (no registration required).

“Rabbit Cake” by Annie Harnett is the topic of the September 6th Book Club Evening Edition meeting.

Adults can enjoy Author Talk with the Library’s former employee Heather Alexander; Monday Movie Matinee “Marry Me;” Line Dancing with Elena Iannucci; a 2-part Intro to Feng Shui with Feng Shui expert Laura Cerrano; “Where Does It All Go?” organizing with Lisa O’Keefe; The A B C’s of Medicare (ZOOM only); and an evening with gifted Medium Lisa Mayer.

And, “A Shred Away, Inc.” will be at the Library the morning of September 9th.
The very generous Made with Love Knitting and Crocheting volunteer group meetings are weekly Mondays at 6:30 pm and Wednesdays at 11:30 am.

Friends of the Library meets at 1:30 pm Wednesday, September 14th at 7:30 pm. The Library Board meets at 7:00 pm the same day. All are welcome to attend.
Book Nook hours vary based on volunteers’ schedules. You can call the Library (516 326-6330) to check when its open. Proceeds from the sale of books, DVDs, etc. go to support the Friends of the Floral Park Library.

Normal Library hours resume September 6th. The Library is closed Monday, September 5th for the Labor Day holiday. For more information, registration dates and times, visit the library website, floralparklibrary.org, or stop in at 17 Caroline Place. Please note all events and programs are subject to change and/or cancellation.
