Roslyn Landmark Society 2022 walking tour of the historic Village of Roslyn

The Roslyn Landmark Society will be hosting a walking tour of the historic Village of Roslyn on Saturday, June 4 with tours at 10 am and 1 pm. Tours will be led by Craig Westergard, architect, current Roslyn Landmark Society trustee, Village of Roslyn trustee and former chairman of the Roslyn Historic District Board.

This will be a walking tour of one of Roslyn’s Historic Districts. It will make a loop around the Duck Pond and Silver Lake and will include residential homes, downtown shops, the Roslyn Grist Mill, currently being restored and ending at the Ellen E. Ward Memorial Clock Tower.

The tour will begin at the Roslyn Landmark Society’s Headquarters, 36 Main Street (circa 1835) for a brief introduction. The tour will proceed southbound on Main Street where there will be a discussion of several historic homes, traverse some gardens and walk through two interiors of recently renovated homes.

The midpoint will be the oldest structure in Roslyn, the Van Nostrand-Starkins House, 221 Main Street (circa 1680). Roslyn Landmark Society trustee and former president, Bob Sargent, will give a brief tour of the building.

The tour will continue north on East Broadway where several important homes will be briefly discussed. We will walk into the garden of the Smith- Valentine-Woods House, 145 East Broadway (circa1855) and then view the interior and gardens of the Valentine-Losee House, 117 East Broadway (circa 1750).

The tour will finish the last leg of East Broadway and turn west onto Old Northern Boulevard through the downtown district. Several important structures will be discussed including the Roslyn Grist Mill.

The conclusion of the tour will be the famous Ellen E. Ward Clock Tower where a special guided tour will be provided by the Village of Roslyn staff. Since we will be on a limited time schedule, participants are encouraged to view other historic profiles on the roslynlandmarks.org website.

Tickets are complimentary for current 2022 Roslyn Landmark Society members and a $25 suggested donation for non-members (which will include a 2022 membership.) Please visit roslynlandmarks.org to register. Each tour will be limited to 20 people.
