Campaigns for Great Neck’s Robert Zimmerman and Nassau County Legislator Joshua Lafazan have announced their first quarter financial filings as each seeks the Democratic nomination in the 3rd Congressional District.

Since launching his campaign on Jan. 18 Zimmerman, a longtime member of the National Democratic Committee, has raised over $900,000, his campaign announced Monday.

“Our next congressperson needs the experience, know-how, and relationships to deliver results for our district,” Zimmerman said in a statement. “We’ve received this incredible support because Democrats know my record as an advocate and leader both nationally and locally – standing up for civil rights and economic justice, protecting Planned Parenthood, and combating the scourge of gun violence. In Congress, I’ll continue this record of aggressive advocacy to fight on behalf of those in our communities who are unseen and unheard.”

The deadline to file about money raised for the first quarter of 2022 is April 15.

“Our fundraising momentum demonstrates the broad coalition of support that we have built across all parts of the 3rd District,’’ said Zimmerman campaign manager Evan Chernack. “We are especially proud that we’ve raised this total while refusing to accept any corporate PAC money. Between our campaign’s strong fundraising and endorsements from leaders and activists representing all parts of the NY-03, it is clear that our message is resonating with Democratic primary voters across our district.”

Lafazan, who announced his candidacy in the middle of December, raised $450,000 before the new year. For the first quarter of this year, his campaign said that the latest filing will show $570,000 in funds raised, bringing the total over $1 million.

“It is motivating for Josh and our entire team to know the breadth and depth of support for Josh and this movement,” said Chase Serota, the campaign manager.

“Every day we hear from taxpayers from Long Island to Westchester that they want a common-sense Democrat like Josh, who is a fighter, a doer, and a leader with a proven record of delivering results for his constituents who will work with anyone and everyone as long as they are tackling the big problems that New Yorkers face.”

Lafazan’s campaign also announced that over 100 interns are working and learning on his campaign.

“I am endlessly inspired by the large number of young people volunteering on our campaign,” Lafazan said in a statement. “It has always been important to me to provide opportunities for young people to get engaged in both government and our electoral system.”

The 3rd Congressional District extends from Westchester to Suffolk County, including the North Shore of Nassau County. The seat is being vacated by Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-Glen Cove) as he runs for governor.

Also running for the Democratic nomination in the district are Melanie D’Arrigo of Port Washington, Reema Rasool of Oyster Bay, state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi and former North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman of Great Neck.

George Santos and Kevin Surdi are seeking the Republican nomination.
